Where Does This Pattern Come From?
The paisley pattern originated in India during the 16th century. The tear-drop like shape supposedly resembles the young shoots of a palm tree which used to be a symbol for good health and a long life in India and the Hindu religion. The paisley pattern was used to decorate fabrics in India and was eventually introduced into European culture after Napoleon's offices brought back fabrics and garments from their trips. Today the paisley pattern is still popular in the textile industry and is commonly used on men's ties, pocket squares, and even dress shirts.
How to Match a Paisley Tie?
Matching the paisley pattern to your suit and tie is quite simple if one rule os followed: Pair fabrics patterns that are different in style and size! This means that you can pair a necktie with a large paisley pattern with a finely checkered or striped shirt and solid suit.
Large or Small Paisleys?
The choice is yours! Typically the finer and more delicate a pattern the more formal it will appear. Thus, neckties with very large paisleys will not be suited for formal or semi-formal attire but instead are better suited for business and elegant leisure-wear.
